Va semnalez un nou proiect al Federatiei Arhivistilor din Romania.

It was Christmas at the Archives

And the cold bare walls are bright

With tinsel decorations

And signs about copyright

The volunteers and customers

Have given many treats

Tins of Roses, shortbread tails

And even homemade sweets

The searchroom is like a wasteland

With everything quiet and still

No whirring from the microfilm

Or ringing of the till

But one man remains seated

Trawling through the books

Regardless of the silent room

And the assistant’s angry looks

“They must be in here somewhere,

I know they will be found

I’ll try another parish

In case they moved around”

He requests another volume

Although it’s nearly four

Despite the early closing

He might just do one more

The archivist walks over

And puts the volume down

He turns the parchment pages

And reads them with a frown

Then suddenly he sees them!

And gives a happy shout

The name he’s searched for many years

Was there without a doubt

The staff are there to share his joy

It’s only twenty past!

If they help him take a copy

They might get home at last

He leaves with joyful wishes

The copy given free

The staff lock up, set the alarm

And turn the lights off on the tree

Each one goes home happy

A job well done they said

A long lost relative is found

And we go home to bed

The customer’s also delighted

And full of Christmas cheer

“That’s one lot found,” he says aloud

But plenty more next year!”

Am urmarit recent un reportaj despre hotii de bunuri culturale. Mi-au retinut atentia 2 faze, nu atat pentru spectaculozitatea situatiilor, cat pentru profesionalismul  (????????????????????????) angajatilor. Evident, ma priveam in oglinda, ca lucrator in Romania.

din nou despre selectionare

Am mai vorbit aici de articolul lui David Bearman. Una din idei era ca oricat am incerca sa pastram ,,permanent”, asa ceva nu exista, pentru ca documentele vor atinge la un moment dat durata limita de viata a materialului-suport. Si in acel moment, nici o arhiva din lume nu ava avea atata buget incat sa isi permita sa restaureze toate documentele ,,expirate”…

Intrebarea este: daca oricum la un moment dat vor fi cantitati prea mari de documente pentru restaurare, si daca oricum la un moment dat nu vom mai putea pastra documentele pe suportul lor, de ce sa nu eliberam spatiul inca de azi?

Vive la France…. :)

Doamne, stupiditatea continua… Va mirati ca ei au inventat Europeana???

PS: acolo unde “mostenirea” e intre ghilimele in text, a se citit “patrimoniu” (heritage).

Arhivisti vs. IT

E cunoscuta in bransa lupta intre IT si arhivisti. Nu e doar in Romania, ci dimpotriva, e o lupta internationala. In elementele de baza, lupta consta in pretentia IT de atotputernicie tehnica in  domeniul administrarii informatiei versus avertismentele arhiviștilor/bibliotecarilor că, în spatele mașinilor sunt oameni, și că există tehnici și metode de administrare a informației pe care un dispozitiv nu le poate automat implementa. Chiar la conferința din Brazilia am întâlnit un tip — inevitabil, de la Politehnică, din Lisabona — care privea cu o superioritate teribilă orice încercare a publicului de a discuta despre metode de ordonare, indexare, regăsire a informației: „eah, sunt probleme simple, le rezolva calculatorul”.
